The Productivity of a 3-Year-Old

I've been keeping busy this week, attempting to make my home less cluttered and more lovely.  My progression has been so slow.  Maybe I should take notes from my 3-year-old.  While I've been cleaning, he's been making loads of progress on his weekly goals.

First, he wanted to help take care of his 1-year-old brother.  He decided to give Dax an impromptu shower.  They were only out of sight for a minute, but my littlest dude was soaked from head to toe (in toilet water!) when I discovered their shenanigans.

Later in the week, Mase assisted Dax again, this time bathing him in flour.

When this same incident happened for the second time in the same day, I stared in disbelief, then--I just let them play.  I completely failed to consider the cup of water on the table that, when spilled on the flour explosion, would turn the floor into a gluey mess!  Still, I've never seen two more content flour-covered little guys.

Mase didn't stop his progress there.  He also attempted a furniture remodel.  Armed with only a pair of scissors, his multi-holed work was quickly complete.  I was obliviously folding laundry on the couch as this task went down.

It wasn't all business this week.  Mase took some time off  too.  I was a little concerned when he went missing!  Luckily, he showed up a few minute later,  just chillin' in a corner.

Dax wasn't left out.  He had a tasty snack too.  I saw him eat a large brown crumb from the table bench, then scrunch his face up in disgust.  Upon closer inspection, I discovered my 3-year-old's bug cup was also on the bench.  Where there were five pill bugs earlier...now...there were three.
Grumpy Grateful Mom Goal of the day:  Loving my mischievous little guys and trying to appreciate the new look of my couch.

I can barely write this because I'm laughing too hard!!! Boy, do you have talented children!!! Isnt it crazy how they can get into trouble in the split second that you are in the bathroom, turn your head to sneeze, blink your eyes!!! Great post, I love how you have fun with the daily mishaps, I love to laugh too over the day to day chaos, for me it is one of the best benefits of the job! Clean house shclean house, I would take fun over it anyday! You are just awsome!!

Don't you just wonder what gets into them? Your photos are great. My 3 year old has been up to a lot of mischief lately too! He's also been stealing the ice cream out of the freezer!! Great minds think alike.

The thought of a "bug cup" makes me shudder and fear the day I have a son.

Same thing happened to my BRAND NEW COUCH 15 years ago! The 'culprit' is now a beautiful 17 year old young woman that is wonderful! YES, we STILL have the couch and shockingly enough it has stayed the same size little square hole all these years. Life is GREAT and YOU are the BEST Grumpy Grateful Mom EVER!!! ;)

Hi there! Found your blog through Theta Mom Comm. I really love it! This post is so funny. I have 4 "wild ones" too, amazing with what they come up with to do.
Nice to "meet" you! Jen

So sorry for you! I had a couple of little director's chairs I had kept since my oldest two were little back in the 80s! All 12 kids have had the opportunity to sit in them. One day I came in to find my oldest grandson just cutting up the seat on one of them with a pair of scissors. Repair or replace both seem to be impossible. Believe me, I've tried! And he didn't even ruin the one with his mom's name on it...

Oh my goodness. Sounds like you have quite an eventful week, and a messy one at that. I admire your patience, and the fact you are able to laugh things off and let the boys enjoy themselves in the mess.

We have not progressed to bug cups yet but when the kiddos ask for them, they will have to stay outside! You are a fantastic MOM!!!

WOW that sounds like one busy week. Every time I hear about little men causing trouble... I sometimes thank Heavenly Father for my 3 girls.... not that they don't cause trouble, but they aren't quite as "Active".Now when they are teenagers or when I get boys.... remember these words and rub them in my face...

As I was typing this Alyssa dumped a whole thing of chips on the floor lol

And on a side note.... even after reading this, my offer to watch all 4 of them still stands :) Yes I know.... I really am insane, but that is why you all like me...

Oh, you crack me up!! They should have a playdate with my 3 yr old daughter who sounds equally mischeiveous (nice word for pain in my butt). I call her the chimp (if you get my drift). Another word for her...poop slinger, she loves to spread it around carpet, beds, clothes, wherever. As soon as she knows the coast is clear, she B-lines it for the fruit snacks, downing 2 boxes in a single draw! I need to capture these times, but I am so fuming mad a picture is the last thing on my mind. I am glad you are embracing this.

What a great attitude you have .... at least they didn't add syrup to the flour to make pancakes??

Wow! You have your hands full for sure. The flour and water would have sent me over the edge.

I wish I could just chill in a corner like your little dude with a yummy snack. I guess all that hard work made him hungry.

Oh, WOW! They sure look like they had a good time! I'm sure you are absolutely exhausted from it all!

Here's to hoping that this week will be a little "quieter" for you!

That is why you should never try to clean!!! I tell you it is hazardous! Counterproductive even. ;)

I had to share this with the Raconteur Daddy! He keeps saying that Little Man is such a handful at 14 months...but I keep telling him to just wait. I can just see Little Man and the Bean doing shenanigans like this next year!

What a hoot! I LOVEE the pictures! It's so hard to get cleaning done with little guys. And deep spring cleaning? Um, what's that?

Wow. And you are so calm!

Such cuties, the flour shower was a great story... just think how much laughter you have brought the rest of us.

And, when they ask you several years from now why their chore is to scrub the kitchen floor, you can bring out the pictures! :)
