A Magical Mother's Day Surprise!

My 7-year-old daughter, Dani,  had an hour long Mother's Day program in her school classroom this past Friday.  I was hoping to use a nearby hourly daycare, but it was full!

I still went, knowing I would, most-likely, end up in the hall for the majority of my daughter's big show.  I dreadingly lugged my three younger children, Evie(5), Mase(3), and Dax(1), into the cramped classroom.

For the performance, I decided to sit Evie and Mase down, towards the front.  I stayed in the back with Dax so I could simultaneously rock my guy in his stroller, while feeding him a steady stream of snacks.  The performance commenced and the magic happened.  The kids--my kids--ALL of them--were actually--ANGELS.  Whoa!

I kept getting all teary-eyed during my daughter's performance, over Dani's sweet songs and my quiet kids!

Then!  Dani served me a cookie and all of my children--shared!  I was impressed with myself also.  I really didn't want to share that yummy cookie.

The younger three and I headed to the parking lot afterward.  I began heaping on the praise, "I am soooo proud of you guys.  You are the best behaved kids in the entire universe."  Suddenly, the magic came to an abrupt halt.

Mase thought it would be fun to make me chase him into his car seat.    After capturing my escapee, he still put up a fight.  His freakishly strong arms and legs even attempted to injure me has I calmly, but firmly, pressed him into his seat so I could restrain buckle him.   "Mom hit me!" he yells.

Back to reality.  Next time I may just bribe him with an M&M.

Grateful Mom Blessing of the Day: I am so grateful for the opportunity of motherhood.  Despite all my complaints and craziness,  I love being a Mom.  It is a most divine and precious gift.

And, a special Happy Mother's Day to my mom, who still heaps on the praise for her grown-up daughter.

Isn't it funny when you see a glimmer of goodness in one instant it can go away with kids! Mase sounds like something my son would do! LOL But it is all worth it.
Happy Mothers Day

Wow nice article about your amazing blogging skills in the SL Trib :) You are so fun! Maybe next time we get our kids together I can get your autograph ;) I'm one of the lucky few just how amazing you are to get to know. Thanks for inviting me to blog. I love it!

Happy mothers day! I love it when the kids act like angels and then melt down after. It's like they try so hard and then can hold it in no longer. I once read something that I have never forgotten, it said you should never praise a child for their behavior because then they have to prove to thier parents that they are not all good! I don't know how true it is but I always try to remember it and say to my kids "I had such a great time with you guys today" then I watch them melt down! Lol! I always love to see you in my "google reader" thanks!

It's so nice to have well behaved kids now and then. I wish it happened more often. One day we'll grow up and have selective memory like my parents who sometimes comment to me : "you kids never said/did anything like that." Oh, I remember!

Hope you had a happy Mother's Day.

I was really hoping that the end would turn out as good as the beginning of this post. At least the kids behaved well during the performance. Hope you had a nice Mother's Day!

That's what motherhood is about isn't it? A few glipses into our children's heart...and then back to their normal selves. We get to love on them either way! Glad you got some good time in your daughter's class. I would have been very very hesitant to attempt such a feat! lol I only have 2 kiddos - can't imagine!!

That's like me dragging 3 or 4 or 5 little ones to an older child school performance. I am glad that they were good for you when it really counted! It is nice that reality pauses once in a while.

Happy Mothers Day!

So glad you had your little Angels when it was important for you. They had to snap back into reality sooner or later : ) I'm totally with you on this motherhood thing, It sure is hard but it is SO worth it!

Congrats to you for your kids behaving well for the program. I had to laugh at your jolt back into reality though. Ahhh the sweet joys of motherhood. :-) I tell you though, as much as you enjoy it now, it just keeps getting better!!

So I was reading your blog and got a kick out of the moose and elk meat. Our neighbors are big hunters and always have elk in the freezer. I am always suspicious of any meat they bring to a pot luck dinner. I am pretty sure I have had elk a few times without knowing it--but I did catch on when they fed us cougar. Yes, cougar!! The first bite wasn't too bad, but as soon as I knew what I was eating, I gagged.

Just think of the end as an illustration/reminder of just how magical the well behaved part was!

Glad you got to enjoy the sweet performance. :)
