A Catchy Ditty: What!?!

I usually try to to talk to my kids when we're driving.  BUT!  I happened to have the radio on the other day.  A catchy song came on that I recognized from American Idol.

I’d catch a grenade for ya (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Throw my hand on a blade for ya (yeah, yeah, yeah)

The radio wasn't very loud and I didn't turn it off.

On our way to church this week I heard my 7-year-old, Dani, singing a lovely little ditty.

I'll make a grenade for ya.  I'll take it away from ya.

"That's not how it goes." pipes 5-year-old, Evie.  It's like this,

I take a blade for ya.

What!?!

And here's where I made my second vital error.  I say, "Enough with that song guys.  Do you even know what a grenade is?"

"Ya, Mom.  It explodes. " says Dani.

I then, unfortunately, attempted to make the song sound more reasonable.  "In the song, he's trying to explain that he would do anything for this girl.  He isn't actually going to take a grenade for her."

This silences my young musicians.  Then, I am relieved to hear Dani begin a new song.

Twinkle, twinkle, little...grenade.

Grumpy Mom Goal of the Year:  Know when to turn my radio (and my mouth) off.

Too funny! It's funny but we listen to songs all the time and then once the kids start sining them you think to yourself, "What did that song just say, are they talking about THAT, now how am I going to explain that". Since we listen to a lot of oldies music we have had our fair share of odd converstions and some really funny moments! Thanks for always managing to make me smile and like my job! Happy Thursday!

LOL that's funny! Kids hear everything anymore and then they show or tell us just how much they really know.

LOL ! I'll love how they make up what they "hear". But "twinkle little grenade" takes the cake !!:)

"Twinkle, Twinkle little grenade." is awesome!!! That is what the real song should have been.

I like and hate the radio. it is nice to have something to drown out the kid noise in the car, but it can be dangerous if anyone is actually hearing the words. We hardly listen to more than the commercials because so many songs ae either annoying or just plain evil.

I was amazed when I was older what songs I knoew as a child and didn't really 'get' the lyrics. I guess I'm happy my husband likes country- it's pretty wholesome (mostly)

too funny! We usually listen to country, and for the most part there isn't much that makes my ears perk. But sometimes my oldest will sing a song and a word comes up that makes me cringe a little...but I refuse to listen to kid music in my car, at home, ok....but not in the car!

This is the prime reason we listen to only Christian music :) ha! We have had these memories before.

Too funny!!! Yep, so glad Miss Mack isn't into pop music! Far fewer things to explain to her! LOL

Note to self- Watch what's on the radio. lol.

My daughter (who is almost two and half) was sitting at the dinner table the other night and dropped her fork. She then replied with gusto, "Oh..CRAP!" Uh yeah...and here I thought I was being good with the language.

Twinkle twinkle little grenade...catchy. They might be on to something.

I have learned kids are always listening. Even when you think they are not. The new version of twinkle, twinkle is hilarious. But I hope it doesn't catch on.

OMG, that is too funny! My son is all about singing "I'm a Child of God" but changing God into something else, like acorns or winning. Kids these days!

SOO funny! Yeah, it's disturbing when I start hearing some of the lyrics coming out of my kids' mouths -- turning it off is a good goal for the day for me too. I want to keep them young as long as possible!

Ha! We aren't quite at that point with Peanut, yet, but this is just a reminder that I'll need to be thinking about that sometime soon!
