Pshhhhhh...

I have a special calling in life.  I am my husband's personal driving assistant--for free!

"Um, your blinker may still be on."
"Do you see that person?"
"Watch out!"

As I have mentioned in an earlier post, he is utterly unappreciative of my assisting and can't see what an asset I truly am.  If only I had been there this weekend.

My husband decided to take my two girls to a local water park.

A couple of hours after he left, I get THE CALL.  They had been in a bit of a driving mishap.

This was my husband's story and he's sticking with it.

The water park has a parking lot fee, which my husband paid online.  As he arrived at the parking lot, he was glancing up at the slides and somehow didn't notice the intended fee-paying entrance to the parking lot.  Nor did he notice the "Do Not Enter" sign.  Nor did he notice the spikes jutting out of the ground that were there to stop him from entering.  (He doesn't drink, I swear!)

Three tires immediately blew.  When he opened the car door all he could hear was, "pshhhhhh".

Dani was the one to initially tell me the story on the phone.  As usual, I could tell she was loving this adventure!  Most of their day was spent at Sam's Club getting new tires.  Goodbye $600.  I will miss you!

Thankfully, my girls filled up on a good $10 worth of free food samples.  Yes, we do hope to make up the entire amount of the tires by taking advantage of samples.   A mere 60 trips to Sam's Club should do the trick.

They did finally make it to the water park, but Evie was too terrified to go near a slide.  Hopefully eight trips down the lazy river was adequate reflection time for my husband to realize how valuable his driving assistant is.

Though next weekend, we'll all stay home and let the kids run through the sprinkler.

Grumpy Grateful Wife Goal:  Attempting not to make fun of my sweet husband...too much.

don't even know what to say!
...three tires? How'd he manage not to get the fourth one?
oh and free samples are usually best Saturday mornings. But you have to battle the crowd

Jim always gets distracted too, when we are driving together I'm always reminding him which exit to take and stuff. He always says I know, but if I don't tell him, he'll miss it. That really stinks about the tires...sorry!

Like the new background! Purple is my favorite color! But now, we don't match. lol!

I would never let my hubby live this one down. But maybe it wasn't worth the new tires. lol!

That is just too funny. Not the $600 part though. I do the same thing to my husband, and he doesn't find it very useful either :( Men!

That never would've happened if you'd been there!!

The samples at Sam's rock. My favorite is around Christmas when they have the fudge guy set up giving samples of any flavor you want...

I absolutely LOVE the term "driving assistant"! I'll have to use that next time when my husband tells me I'm driving him crazy with my "assisting"! ;) But seriously, he's the worst driver ever, if I do say so myself! ;)

I'm sorry to hear about the $600 mishap, but at least now he'll realize how much he needs your input while driving! ;)

Driving assistant cracks me up! I really do hope he appreciates you, although if he is like my husband he still won't get it! New tires aren't a fun way to spend $600, and 60 trips to Sam's could get expensive as well, but those samples are yummy! Loved the story!

Oh my... That is too bad! (And kind of funny.. :)) We love Sam's Club! It is just not a fun day to spend all day. Hope your husband appreciates you in the future! ;)

Blessings in Him,

LOL... they never know how great we are till we are gone. I swear the one time I don't point out that my husband is about to hit a car is the one time he needs me to! Oh well so goes life. At least we KNOW how needed we are. OH and we love SAMS samples too! My kids have even said "lets go have lunch at SAMS" crazy kids!

What kind of a water park puts SPIKES up to keep people from coming in the wrong direction? Granted.. stupid mistake, but this seems a tad extreme, right? I'm not sure who needs help more when driving... me or Erik... its a toss up, but I know that I'm the one driving, so it must be him with the issues. heh..

That is one big concern I have when going to parking lots that are unfamiliar to me. Oh, and the worst culprits are lots at airport car rental returns. Gah!

That would happen to me. If it's possible to do - I've probably done it. I'm so accident prone and then my guilt eats away at me for my not so graceful behavior.

That's probably all you can afford after plunking down $600 dollars for new tires. So sorry for you!

OMgoodness, how horrible. I could totally see my husband do that too without me driving in the passenger seat. I too have some great driving experiences with my husband as I am sure you have read. Glad all was not lost with the waterpark. Yeah, I would be sticking close to home too. LOVE THE NEW LOOK!

Hey there...I barely recognized you. I go away for a week, and you get a brand new spanking look! but of course your humour gave you away.. I knew it was you 3 sentences in. LOL Will try not to laugh at your hubbie's expense when I share this tale with my own, who I am sure will want to start a support group with yours.
Love the new look.

This was all kinds of funny! Well, not the $600 part....but the rest of it? Yeah, this is one that I would have to "remind" him about, over and over for a little while. And then again, a few years later.

Yeah, you're gonna get a lot of mileage out of this one!

Um, does a water park really need SPIKES to protect its parking lot? That seems a little much.

...and that totally sounds like something my husband would do!

One of those days they'll realize that we are the best assistants and are always right. And see, I wouldn't have thought about giving specific instructions to my husband NOT to pop the tires, so thanks to your husband, now I've got another item added to my list of 'teachings.' So there you have it; there's the good in your expensive situation.

Well, here's my question: as much as you may feel unappreciated as a driving assistant, are you really sorry you missed having to go to the water park? SHould us moms feel bad if we're not eager to share a day of shooting fountains and scary slides?

That is something I would probably do, not my husband...mainly because I am always trying to do 10 things at once...get Marlee's drink, or book or talk to her or whatever plus pay attention to whats around us...bla bla bla. :)

My husband on the other hand always drives when we are together, although he whines about it...but he drives for a living so he knows the "rules". :)

Don't make fun of him too much. Although it would be VERY hard for me not to if it were my hubby! :)
