Toothless Windfall!

My five-year-old, Evie, was an early teether.  She got her first tooth at only three months.  That was painful...for me!  When she was four, she lost two teeth in just a few days.

But now Evie has outdone herself.  This past Saturday, she lost a tooth.  Then, on Sunday, another tooth popped out.  There was a dramatic episode that followed tooth #2.  She dropped her pearly white under a picnic table!

Tears ensued, but the tooth was found!

After the search and rescue, I demanded possession of the tooth for safe keeping; I wasn't going through missing tooth drama again.  Except...I accidentally...misplaced the tooth.

Temporary panic set in.  Thankfully, the tooth fairy had not thrown away the (very similar looking) tooth from the night before.

Then!  On Monday, Evie had another tooth just barely hanging on.  I thought she was going to loose three teeth in three days, but that tooth would not give up.

I don't have it in me to yank.  I tried it once with my older daughter.  She screamed in pain and the tooth didn't come out.

Last night, my (also reluctant yanker) husband finally pulled out Evie's sorry hanging tooth.  Our tooth fairy is cheap, but Evie has still accumulated quite an exciting stash: one pack of gum, one container tic-tacs, $1.50, and three extra-special tooth fairy notes.

And, she's still got two more loose teeth to go!

My three-year-old, Mase, doesn't quite understand.  He's been trying to wiggle his teeth out.  No luck yet.

Grumpy Grateful Mom Goal of the Day:  Taking a short tooth fairy break.  She is burnt out.

August 9, 2011 - I had to update this.  Evie has now lost three more teeth!  That's six teeth total in just a little over a month.  I'm claiming the world record.

How ingenious!
I wish I had thought of that. Man that would have saved me some money!!! Kids love stuff like that.

Oh my, that is a lot of teeth lost in such a short time! The tooth fairy must really have to be on the ball in your house! :)

I have never thought to give something other than money for teeth, great idea! Thankfully neither of my children have lost any teeth yet, so I'll definitely be using that idea. Thank you! :)

Our tooth fairy always leaves small gifts rather than money. Believe me, she is going broke at our house!

Because my oldest wrapped his tooth in toilet paper (suggested ever so sneakily by me so I could find the tooth easier in my search in the dark), we decided to have fun one year and TP his entire room! He woke up laughing and the couple dollars he got under his pillow made it that much more memorable. In our house you have to be careful as the TP Fairy might come for a visit... Cups Up! xoxo

Hey I know about younger kids trying to pull their teeth out. When KAit lost her 3rd tooth, Alyssa kept trying to pull hers out. So funny! Luckily those things are in the pretty good ;)

My son just lost 2 in the span of 2 weeks. I've noticed, somewhat begrudginly, that the Tooth Fairy is far more extravagant these days. I think a quarter was the going rate when I was young.
My son is now $4 richer.
I will have to get him to buy me a coffee.

Man she keeps this tooth losin business up you will have to take out a small loan. One of my friends just did the string to the door, slam it shut trick to pull out her daughters tooth. Painful.

I wish the tooth fairy in my house could be that cheap. In these parts she pays $2 a tooth. Clearly something is wrong over here.

Wow, that's an early tooth loser! (Yes, that's a title, I made it up. So what?)

My son is 11 and still has so many teeth to lose! I wish he'd hurry up already!

Funny, my 7 and a half year old only just lost his SECOND tooth yesterday! The thing was wiggly for about two months, and by the time it came out, I saw the aduly tooth was already coming in!

It is amazing how they can start falling out all at one time! We have just went through a few times like that. And then two of the kids were losing them at the same time. Crazy! Glad you are keeping up!

Sooo cute -- Buddy lost his first 2 teeth... I mean *really* lost them. One came out away from home and it never made it home, and he swallowed the second one. Of course, the stinker was already pretty sceptical about the whole "fairy" business ....

So I'm just dying for Goldie to lose a tooth, so I can't get excited about it! She just turned 6 and nothing yet :(

Be glad Mase doesn't know my mom! She has dentures and likes to say to 3-4 year olds, "Hey, wanna see what I can do?" (spits out teeth and sucks them back in her mouth) "Can YOU do that?" And then you find the kid in front of the mirror for hours trying to pull their teeth out.

Great ideas for treats from the tooth fairy! Hope you get a break soon!

Wow! She lost a lot of teeth at once. My son has lost 2, and has 4 wigglers right now. My daughter feels left out, and keeps telling us that her teeth are loose, too!

Aawwww - she's adorable! My youngest, 10, walked into the room last night with a tooth - I guess a 10 year old molar?(sp) - when they're popping out, it means there's enough space - so maybe braces aren't really necessary. We battle having enough space!
