The Parade

I feel it my parental duty to endure take my children to one parade a year.  So, this weekend my husband and I packed up the posse and headed to the local parade.

My kids and I took a seat on the curb in anticipation. You'd think we would have noticed all of the ants as we sat down.

One bit Dani and the ants didn't stand a chance.

As the parade commenced, I expected Mase to be giddy with excitement.  Instead he was focused, determined to beat his older sisters to the parade candy.   My children have their priorities.

Dani had a successful strategy this year, "Hi," she would say with a smile and wave, hoping to get an extra candy toss.   "You're beautiful!" she would call out to all of the princesses on the royalty floats.

I got all teary-eyed as the first marching band walked by.  I was having a flashback of my marching band days.  The kids at this parade sounded great, but I think the tears must have derived from gratitude that I was not still marching!

I attempted to keep Dax in his stroller but he wasn't having it.  As you would expect, he became obsessed with diving into the street.

Once Dax realized that his siblings had treasure in their bags, his obsession quickly changed: candy!

He loomed over my other children and kept hitting their bags, hoping for some candy compassion.  His efforts were rewarded.

After the parade, as her overflowed with treats, Dani declared, "This must be Candy Love Day.  This is the best day ever!"

I'm glad we took the time to go to the parade.
My joyful parade face

Grumpy Grateful Mom Goal of the Day:  I'll be making all of the leftover parade candy disappear.

That is my same goal after parades.

I love parades but I don't have to wrangle that many excited children. It looks like you all had fun! ;)

I love parades, but sadly, haven't been to one in a long time. They sort of lose their "hype" after being in over 100 parades. Band + Royalty = Lots of parades and sunburns. LOL!
How did you miss those ants? Yikes, there were a ton of them!
And your family is so cute! Love the "happy" face and hanging onto Dax by his pants. We do that too! :D

Oh my gosh how cute haha. Your kids are adorable and love how Dani would tell the princesses they were beautiful! :)

And yes, the Harry Potter part of the Universal Studios was fun, I'll probably post on that today or tomorrow...whenever I have time ha.

It looks like you were pretty close to us! We were right across from the aquatic center...I couldn't believe they threw so much candy at that parade! Course with my troops most of it was gone within a couple of hours. Did you see my girls in the band? It brought tears to my eyes too...they are growing up so fast! It seems like just yesterday Bossy was marching in her first parade...

I love your joyful parade face. I have one of those too. My son once told my daughter, 'Mom's not mad. Her face just always looks like that.' And I wasn't mad when he said it! Sad, sad, sad. But 'disappearing' their candy turns me back to glad :D

You crack me up. I feel the same way about the "parade" debocle. I used to have an obligation to go to a bizillion parades a year...my f-i-l is a bag piper! Gasp! I have know been relieved of that duty, his parades are too far. I am so sad (hehe). You have done your duty for the year and I am with you on the candy :)

We have only taken the kids to one parade (well all 3 of them) and it was a disaster and not something I'd attempt every year. However we will not only be attending a parade this year, but they called us to make the stake float for the children's parade and have asked us to march with our two oldest. The biggest challenge is that they want us there 2 hours yes 2 HOURS before it starts and then they are asking the kids to walk a mile (no bikes, scooters or trikes). We'll just have to wait see how brave we feel that day.

are you guys wearing sweaters?? at a parade here in the south, we'd be half-naked and burnt to a crispy shade of red. so.....we avoid parades unless its like.....winter!

I still have candy canes hidden somewhere from our town's Christmas parade! I don't tell them about the summer parades....there's no need, the town fairgrounds are literally across from our front yard. No keeping that one a secret.

I haven't taken my tot to a parade yet, but I guess we're getting close to that. Probably around Christmas this year. Oh boy :/

and your fruit salsa below ... SO going to make that, yum!

I love your joyful parade face! So funny that they kept him paid out in candy, but that does beat street diving.

This past year we tried to go to the Christmas Parade in our town, and yea, you would think December in VA not too cold......it was a disaster, we were back home cuddled up watching a Christmas movie before the parade even started!

I am the same way with candy! Let 'em enjoy it then swipe it later...
